Our Sustainable Practices

Environment Sustainable development is a strategic choice for Antonis A. Moussamas SA. We remain committed in the implementation of environmental policies that respect and protect the environment. We regard sustainability as the only way forward for any business. In all our hotels, we have adopted energy savings, recycling and green practices while informing our customers and inviting them to join us in our efforts.

Specifically, the Crowne Plaza Athens City Centre hotel has implemented the IHG Hotels Group, Green Engage programme, which ensures the implementation of energy saving practices. A team has been set up, that includes all department heads, with the objective to train staff in the various ways of saving energy.

Indicatively:

  • From 2010, seven years before the technology started being implemented in the Greek market, we installed an Energy Saving Hybrid Heat System, which provides ample heating, whilst also producing hot tap water for our hotels. The system consists of a set of heat pumps, a central electronic management controller and a number of digital sensors that send readings every 5 seconds to the central management system. The controller is responsible for optimizing the production of thermal energy. Energy savings amount to 50 – 70% per annum.
  • The Housekeeping staff have been instructed not to flush the toilets excessively and unnecessarily, not to leave the taps running when cleaning the room, to keep curtains open during summer and keep them closed during winter and finally, to make the least possible use of artificial lighting.
  • The Kitchen staff have been instructed to switch off the gas when not in use, not to leave taps running unnecessarily, and adjust the dose meters on detergents, in cooperation with the detergent purveyors, so as to use only the amounts needed.
  • The service and banquet department has been instructed not to leave the lights on when rooms are not in use and to immediately notify the maintenance department to make sure the air conditioning is functioning properly.
  • The maintenance department carries out preventive maintenance, machinery cleanings in order to improve performance and inspect pipes and toilet flush systems for leaks.
    All office personnel ensure that lights and air conditioning systems do not remain on after the staff has left, and that their computers do not remain on standby and do not print excessively.

In addition to the Green Engage system:

  • An energy saving system has been installed by Phoebus.
  • Outdoor lighting operates with time sensors, whilst indoor lighting in public areas is regulated by time switches.
  • LED lighting has been installed throughout most of the hotel and where this was not possible, energy-saving lamps have been installed instead.
  • Exterior glass panels are fitted with sun protection membranes.
  • The hotel has dual flush toilets and water-efficient shower heads.
  • Banquet halls are chosen for events on the basis of the number of participants. After the end of an event the staff is instructed to switch off the lights. In addition, cooling and heating in meeting rooms operate with time sensors.
  • The room temperature can be set with a margin of ±4 degrees Centigrade.
  • Room lighting is activated and de-activated with the room key card.
  • There is a “help us help the environment” programme through which we inform guests and ask them if they want to join us in our efforts with respect to changing sheets and towels in their rooms.
  • Paper, glass, plastic, and aluminium are recycled.
  • Batteries, lamps, and electrical devices are recycled.
  • Used vegetable oil is recycled.
  • In collaboration with the NGO “Clean Hands” left-over soap and shower gel is recycled, which is then given to social groups in need.

Evelity, tailored for our visually impaired guests, offers a navigational system that articulates the layout of our hotel with detailed audio descriptions and multilingual support, ensuring autonomy and ease of movement. Likewise, our partnership with Evenly, an assistive technology platform, facilitates unhindered communication for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing, with real-time translations and an easy-to-use interface.
